I just wanted everyone to know that I am really excited to be doing a blog. I hope this goes well and you don't get bored.
I know things have been tight moneywise for a while and things are starting to pick up a little. I have a big (ok, huge- would be a better way to put it) goal. I am a school bus driver (bless me - I know I need it) and I am also a volunteer at the local intermediate school (6th & 7 th grades) in Hurricane, UT. I want to raise $30,000 for an acoustic shell.
Our Orchestra is huge and we have no acoustic shell. We put on our concerts in the gym, and the sound is lost. I play cello, and to convey to you the size we are, we have 15 cellos just in the advance classes( more cellos than the southwest symphony orchestra!) All together our intermediate orchestra has almost 100 students divided into two large classes. The beginning orchestra is a little smaller, but it also is two classes strong.
I just want you to consider the amount of time you listen to the radio, your cd's, movies, ect. anything that has music in it. These kids are very passionate about what they do. Every year our group has gone to the Southern Utah Preforming Arts Festival (SUPAF) they have always ranked Superior.
If you live in the Southern Utah area I will be doing a fundraiser with photography (the photo above is not me, but taken by me, and posted with permission). My packets are only $10, and half of the money will go towards the purchase of the shell. I will be at the Hurricane Peach Days with a booth the sell cooling neck bands for $5, everything from that will go to this fundraiser.
I will try to set things up to donate online. Please call if you would like to help with this project. I would appreciate other buisness that would like to sponsor this wonderful group. I have a CD available from a SUPAF preformance, all I ask is for a min. $5 donation.
